interstate 26 eastbound at a standstill

as stated the other day on this very blog... interstate 26 inbound to charleston, so. carolina came to a complete standstill for more than an hour, according to the radio stations this morning...

i slept in, getting up too late to get caught in that bog of cars... so, at 7:45 or so, as i was rushing along the interstate highway towards bright red tail lights of stopped or stopping traffic ahead ... i heard a female announcer confidently state on the radio, "... the traffic appears to be moving better than it has all morning..."

i laughed as i started my notorious early braking to avoid the crush of cars from behind and give myself a cushion ahead... a long standing, very good habit here...

i just hate to tail gate...

and, here i go again... we need a rapid transit system to get us to work and back to home again...

now, think about this... if each car drove according to the car in front of it and the car behind it... keeping a nice bubble of space before and behind... then everyone would move along at a nice speed and no one would have to brake, or would not need to brake as often or as abruptly... of course, it takes some intelligence on the part of all drivers for this to ever happen, especially here in so. carolina...
