The Geminids begin to appear noticeably more numerous in the hours after 10 p.m. local time Monday, because the shower’s radiant is already fairly high in the eastern sky by then. The best views, however, come around 2 a.m. Tuesday, when their radiant point will be passing very nearly overhead. The higher a shower’s radiant, the more meteors it produces all over the sky.

my son and i saw "ocean's 12" then drove over to mt. pleasant to take 17 north to georgetown, stopping in several dark spots (spooky) to watch the sky to the northeast and east for meteors... although we did not see many, most were the earthgrazers and some were downright huge with long streaks reminiscent of fireworks as they trail away... some were so large and long-lasting that i could see them while driving right out the front windshield...
driving back along I 26 i fell asleep at the wheel and nearly ran into the median barrier... i have never fallen asleep driving before... that horrible sound of the tires hitting the warning barrier in the pavement and my son's "mom!" woke me right up, just in time to veer away from the concrete coming at us...
