don't worship a block of wood

i read a little this morning in isaiah about the blacksmith making a metal piece, then falling down to worship the very thing he made with his own hands... and the carpenter who found a great pine tree, felled it, roughed out of it an idol in the form of mankind, then fell down upon the ground to worship the very thing he made with his own hands... and with the remaining wood, he started a fire to cook some bread over and to keep himself warm... and in the margin of my bible, i wrote:

don't worship a block of wood...

i recall an acquaintance of many years ago who told me that she liked a bit of hinduism, a bit of islam, a bit of christianity, a bit of buddhism; and she had sort of mixed these religious ideas together to create a god that she now worshipped...

don't worship a block of wood...
